We are working with an insurance and reinsurance broker to hire a Facultative Reinsurance Broker to join their Property & Energy team, with a primary focus on African business.
This role is dedicated to facultative (FAC) reinsurance placements across property and energy risks, supporting clients across Africa. The successful candidate will take ownership of an existing portfolio of business, with the opportunity to further develop and expand it, as well as gain exposure to additional classes over time.
The position offers significant client and market interaction, including travel within Africa and to key international reinsurance hubs.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage and develop an existing book of facultative reinsurance business across Africa
Structure and place facultative reinsurance solutions for property and energy risks
Analyse underwriting submissions, exposure data, and risk profiles
Prepare high-quality placement documentation and market submissions
Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with reinsurers
Build and maintain strong relationships with African clients and global reinsurance markets
Provide strategic advice to clients on reinsurance structures and market conditions
Manage the full placement lifecycle from submission through to binding
Monitor market trends, capacity, and pricing within African property and energy sectors
Collaborate with internal teams including analytics, claims, and client servicing
Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal governance standards
Experience in facultative reinsurance, ideally within property and/or energy
Exposure to African insurance or reinsurance markets is highly desirable
Strong technical understanding of risk placement and policy structures
Experience managing client relationships and/or an existing book of business
Strong negotiation and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple placements under tight deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint)
Knowledge of energy risks (upstream, midstream, downstream, renewables)
Experience with London Market and/or international reinsurance markets
Progress towards or completion of ACII qualification
Broader class experience (e.g. casualty or specialty lines) is advantageous
